For a period in the 1960s, following the closure of the Skegness Conservative Club, the Skegness Conservative Men’s Branch met at the Lion Hotel. However, at the meeting on Monday, September 9, 1968, the chairman, Cllr Dr David Pendrigh, reported that the Lion’s landlords, Eric and Zona Keverne, would be moving to the Crown Hotel on Drummond Road. After some discussion it was decided that branch meetings would be transferred to the Crown if possible. The first meeting at the new venue was held on Monday, November 4, 1968
