Dear Colleagues,

The year 2026 is still in its infancy yet the political calendar requires us to prepare for elections in 2027.

Originally both Town Council and District Council elections were to take place in May of that year. However, the Local Government Review will abolish both upper tiers, County and District Councils. These will be replaced by one or more unitary authorities for the whole of Lincolnshire.

Town and Parish Councils are not part of these proposals and will remain unchanged. This means the branch will need to raise money to finance the elections and recruit volunteers to organise the campaigns.

For some time the branch has been increasing its fundraising activities and has planned a full programme of events for 2026.

We have already held a successful coffee morning at the Vine Hotel, Skegness, and will now be holding a Music Night at the North Shore Hotel on March 7. This will feature a popular five-piece band, Lizzie and the Sandboys. If you like the best of 60s, 70s and 80s music this is not to be missed. Full details can be found elsewhere in this newsletter.

I can’t stress enough how important it is for the Conservatives to maintain a strong presence in Skegness.

We are under the yoke of a Socialist Government that is hostile to private enterprise and regulation-obsessed. The nannying mentality governs their thinking. Oh, I nearly forgot taxation fanatics!

So we must campaign to preserve British values such as the freedom to express our views legitimately without the fear of harassment; and resistance to excessive and pointless controls on our liberties as citizens of the UK. I could go on…

Finally, this Thursday, February 26, it is the branch AGM at the North Shore Hotel. Please come along. If you prefer to join the meeting via Zoom please contact our Secretary, John Cowpe, on email [email protected] who will let you have the necessary joining instructions.

All the best,

Cllr Dick Edginton
