Association Vice-President and Skegness Branch member John Cowpe has edited and compiled a book championing the cause of wider ownership.
“Wider Ownership: A Way Forward for the UK” argues that encouragement of wider ownership, whether that be of homes, shares or community assets, is the positive way forward for the country.
It makes the case that a fundamental shift towards a truly popular capitalism can help overcome the alienation which many people, especially the young, feel towards our economic system and democracy.
John says: “The book’s ambition is towards a country where many more people can enjoy a stable family life and good sustainable income. It hopes to help change the often-held view that capitalism inevitably produces an ‘us and them’ society.”
The Rt Hon Lord Howell, of Guildford, who as David Howell pioneered wider ownership as a Minister in several Conservative Governments, says in the book: “Millions of people are now beginning to see themselves as potential proprietors of the economy and society, as stakeholders.”
“Wider Ownership: A Way Forward for the UK”, has a Foreword by Lord Brady, of Altrincham (formerly Conservative MP and 1922 Committee Chairman Sir Graham Brady) and an Introduction by the Rt Hon Jesse Norman MP, Shadow Leader of UK’s House of Commons. It contains essays on the wider ownership theme from Lord Howell, of Guildford, an early pioneer of wider ownership as David Howell MP, a Minister under Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher; Dr Kristian Niemietz, Editorial Director and Head of Political Economy of the Institute of Economic Affairs; Josh Smith, Director of Policy at NextGenTories; Andrew Dubock, Communications Manager of community ownership charity Plunkett UK; and John Cowpe.
The book is available from Amazon Books as a paperback (priced £5 ) or on Kindle (priced £1.99) https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=wider+ownership+a+way+forward+for+the+UK&i…
