CPF Group backs the Triple Lock

The Triple Lock on the State Pension should be retained, say members of the Skegness Conservative Policy Forum Group (CPF).

Meeting at the North Shore Hotel, Skegness, the group expressed the view that the Triple Lock provided an important safety net for pensioners.

It also opposed suggestions that the State Pension might be means tested, as this would provide a disincentive for people to save money for their retirement.

Members supported the idea put forward in the 2024 Conservative Manifesto that the tax-free personal income allowance for pensioners should be raised in line with the triple lock.

The group was taking part in a national survey on the Winter Fuel Allowance and Sustainable Retirement Incomes.

Its other conclusions included the following:

* Opposition to the Government’s decision to means test winter fuel allowances.

* The introduction of an integrated transport card for OAPs to provide concessions for bus, rail and taxi fares.

* Auto-enrolment into workplace pension schemes to be made compulsory.

* Increasing the years of work needed to qualify for a full State Pension from between 42 and 47 years.

* Keeping the pension age at 67 until circumstances change to justify raising it.

* Educating young people about the need to save for retirement as early as possible.

* Avoiding inter-generational unfairness by replacing student loans with grants and making it easier for young people to get on the housing ladder.
