Boston Supper Club welcomed the Rt Rev the Lord Bishop of Lincoln Stephen Conway at the Boston & County Club on May 16.
Fifty-three guests enjoyed a supper of “Lincolnshire Platter” including haslet, pork pie, ham, Boston Sausage, new potatoes and salad followed by apple pie and sustard.
The Bishop spoke about his early life being educated at Archbishop Tenison’s Grammar School in Lambeth, London, followed by Keble College, Oxford.
He then did teacher training at Keble and became a teacher at a private school in Perth.
This was followed by attending Anglican theological college in Cambridge and becoming ordained in 1986.
His career has mainly been in the north of England from being made a deacon in Petertide by the Bishop of Jarrow and ordained by the Bishop of Durham.
From 1986 he served in Heworth, Sunderland and Durham, before going to Cockerton in Darlington where he was Priest-in-Charge until 1998.
He was consecrated as Bishop of Ramsbury in 2006, then being promoted to senior chaplain and subsequently Archdeacon of Durham.
Then in 2011 he became Bishop of Ely.
As the 26th most senior Bishop in the Church of England he was elevated to the House of Lords in 2014.
For a time he was not only Bishop of Eley but also Acting Bishop of Lincoln until becoming full time in Lincoln in 2023.
He is a regular speaker and contributor in the House of Lords on various subjects including British Steel, primary school mental health, renters’ rights, agriculture and inheritance tax, asylum seekers and the Rwanda Bill.
