Boston and Skegness Conservative Association welcomed Victoria Atkins, MP for Louth and Horncastle, and Shadow Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, as guest speaker at their annual dinner.

Members and supporters enjoyed an excellent meal followed by a great speech at the Boston & County Club.

Victoria gave an insight into the Conservative Party's fight in Opposition including its various campaigns, including saving the Dartmoor Ponies which resulted in a government U-turn on culling them.

Victoria has also introduced a Private Member’s Bill to the House of Commons seeking to prohibit the installation of solar farms on the highest quality agricultural land.

She went on to mention the importance to our county of the Lincolnshire Show, demonstrating the best Lincolnshire has to offer. This year Lincolnshire Conservatives were the only Party to have a tent at the show talking to members about our plans locally and nationally.

Association Chairman James Cantwell said: "It was fantastic to hear the work the Shadow Cabinet were doing to hold the Labour Government to account. It is welcome to hear that all our policies are planned out with the party’s golden rule meaning that at least half of all savings identified will go towards deficit reduction, with the other half going to tax cuts and pro-growth measures.
